Bill Gottlieb

Die Library of Congress kaufte 1995 die Sammlung an Jazzaufnahmen des Fotografen William P. Gottlieb. Gottlieb selbst hatte festgelegt, dass seine Sammlung am 16. Februar 2010 in öffentlichen Besitz übergehen, also rechtefrei sein solle, und nun hat die Library of Congress die ersten 200 der insgesamt 1.600 Fotos auf ihrer Flicker-Seite historischer Fotos veröffentlicht. Doch ganz unbedenklich ist die Nutzung nicht, wie die LoC auf ihrer Gottlieb-Website mitteilt: "Nutzer von Fotografien aus der Gottlieb-Sammlung sind für die Abklärung der Rechte abgebildeter Personen verantwortlich". Die Sammlung umfasst viele legendäre Fotos Gottliebs, die dieser zwischen 1938 und 1948 in New York und Washington, DC, aufgenommen hatte, Bilder von Künstlern wie Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines, Thelonious Monk, Stan Kenton, Ray McKinley, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Ella Fitzgerald und Benny Carter.

The Library of Congress had purchased photographer William P. Gottlieb's collection of jazz photographs in 1995. Gottlieb himself stipulated that his collection enter into the public domain on February 16, 2010, and now the Library of Congress has put the first 200 of a total of 1,600 photos on their historic photos Flicker page. Nevertheless, as the LoC states on their Gottlieb website, "users of photographs in the Gottlieb collection are responsible for clearing any privacy or publicity rights associated with the use of the images". The Gottlieb collection includes some legendary photographs of the New York and Washington, D.C., jazz scenes from 1938 to 1948, pictures of artists such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines, Thelonious Monk, Stan Kenton, Ray McKinley, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Ella Fitzgerald, and Benny Carter.
